IR and Canon Cameras

A friend and I wanted to try out IR photography. I have a Canon PowerShot Pro1 and they have a Rebel XTi. Can we use the Tiffen R72, and if so, what will the photos look like? I understand that the Pro1 must be modified, but I'm not willing to dedicate it to IR. Does the Rebel need modification too?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
