: A friend and I wanted to try out IR photography. I have a Canon PowerShot Pro1 and they have a Rebel XTi. Can we use the Tiffen R72, and if so, what will the photos look like? I understand that the Pro1 must be modified, but I'm not willing to dedicate it to IR. Does the Rebel need modification too?
: Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Bob
I have a Canon 400D(XTi) and it's pretty useless at IR. Exposure times are 30 seconds on a bright sunny day and colours are not possible.
Options are to have your rebel converted or buy another camera. A good DSLR for IR is the Nikon D50 which will take resonable handheld photos without conversion. I opted for an old Olympus C2020 compact off of Ebay which is known for being IR sensitive and the live view allows me to compose with the R72 filter in place. It's a cheap way of getting into IR.
